The Sleep Board

Ive been meaning to make something for my daughters empty wall in her bedroom for almost a year. As the piece of MDF measures 1mx1.5m I was stuck how to fill it especially as my daughter, Ellie, wanted something scrapbooky (can you believe she said that?!!!).
So when Caroline sent me some nested flower chipboard pieces to work on I instantly knew I’d blend them into this project. I just had to find the time!
I painted the MDF board in pink and then using a wide foam brush, I painted crackle glaze in vertical stripes. After allowing that to dry I then used the same width foam brush and again, using vertical stripes with white paint, went over the crackle glaze. Once that was dry, I dipped a pint glass in pink paint and dotted the rim all over the crackle glaze. I then tied various ribbon to the right of the project (a must have request from Ellie!).
I made two photo corners from chipboard and covered it in paper to flow with the colour scheme. I then selected various scrapbook left over papers to lay the flowers on (I had painted the flowers pink to stand out on the white). I glued theflowers onto the papers and cut the excess paper away from the edges and stuck them in a random pattern on the white crackle glaze area of the board.

I found some large chipboard letters and painted them to spell the word SLEEP and hung them off the flowers. I find the flowers made the most boldest statement on this art project and I didn’t want the letters to take over the focus. I flourished the rest of the project with Prima gems and when it was done I hung it in Ellies Bedroom by screwing each corner to the wall.
Ellie loves it, I love it and visitors think she is a lucky girl to have a custom piece of wall art.
